Thuy Tran and Steve Schifferdecker
Thuy Tran
Thuy left Vietnam on a fishing boat in 1981 at age 8 and was a refugee in the Philippines for a year, prior to coming to the United States in 1982. Before moving to Reno, Thuy lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Marquette University. She has lived happily in Reno for the past 28 years and has been an active Realtor since 2007.
Giving back to the community is another aspect of her life that she cherishes and over the years has donated money to various non-profit organizations. In 2021, Thuy raised over $8,600 for Pathfinder Children’s Ministry and even went camping for a week with these aspiring kids, ages 9-18. Thuy recently raised over $3,500 for the United States Air Force Academy Cadets.
Thuy was appointed to the Washoe County Senior Advisory Board for District 2 in 2022. She has been a member of the Asian Real Estate Association of America since 2011. She has served as the 2023 First Vice President for the Sierra Nevada REALTORS.
Thuy does look forward to future leadership opportunities. Thuy is also very proud that two of her three children are homeowners.
Steve Schifferdecker
Steve retired from a nearly 30+ year career as a music educator in 2019, having taught in Nevada, Oregon, and Colorado. His post-teacher life allows time to focus on his passion for real estate alongside his wife, Thuy. Steve earned a master’s degree of music in conducting at the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s in music education at Murray State University in Kentucky.
His teaching career took him to all corners of the United States to work with various ensembles of all types and ages. Under his guidance, Damonte Ranch and McQueen High Schools were the benchmark for excellence in the Washoe County School District, earning hundreds of local, state, and regional awards. Steve was honored to have received nominations for Who’s Who Among American Teachers and to be listed in the School Band and Orchestra Magazine’s article, “50 Directors Who Make a Difference.”
One of Steve’s two adult children earned a degree in Sustainability from Arizona State University and the other just earned his state EMT licensure. Personally, they enjoy the arts, good food, spending time with their five children, and traveling. Thuy and Steve recently traveled to Dub ai for an International Trade Mission with other Realtors from around the world and are looking forward to more travels in the future.
